How do I get to Crested Butte, Colorado?

For those traveling by car, both Monarch Pass and Cottonwood Pass are accessible during this time of year. We recommend planning your drive during daylight hours to ensure safety while navigating these mountain passes and to fully appreciate the scenic views. If traveling by air, you can fly into Gunnison Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) via United Airlines or American Airlines, most commonly connecting through Denver (DEN) or Dallas (DFW). Alternatively, flights into Denver (DEN) or Colorado Springs (COS) are available, though these options will require a rental car and approximately a 4 drive to Crested Butte.

What transportation is available from Gunnison to Crested Butte?

Rental cars are available if you would like more freedom to explore during your stay. Alternatively, multiple shuttle services are available by reservation to take you from Gunnison to Crested Butte, which is about 40 minutes away. Their contact information can be found below. Once you are in Crested Butte, a free town bus can take you most places in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. How do I get to the wedding ceremony and reception? 

Personal vehicles are not permitted at our mountain venue, but we are happy to provide transportation for all of our guests. Shuttle schedules and pickup locations will be shared here as the wedding day approaches.

What is the dress code for the wedding?

We’d love for our guests to dress their best and embrace a 'Mountain Formal' style! Think formal or semi-formal attire, but with the practicalities of a mountain setting. Weather can be unpredictable, so staying warm is key! For footwear, consider sturdy shoes or a block heel instead of delicate heels to more easily navigate the natural terrain.

What will the weather be like in early October? 

In early October in Crested Butte you can expect crisp mountain weather. Average daytime highs are often in the upper 50s °F with nighttime lows dipping into the 30s °F, so mornings and evenings can feel quite cool. Weather in the mountains can change quickly and there is always a chance of rain or snowfall, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing a warm jacket.

Are kids invited to the wedding?

We’re keeping our celebration limited to immediate family and wedding party children only, thank you so much for understanding!

How should I handle the elevation? 

Crested butte sits at 8,865 feet above sea level. Please plan on drinking plenty of water and limit activities for the first 24 hours after your arrival. Signs of altitude sickness include headache, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness and shortness of breath. If symptoms are mild take tylenol, drink water, rest and do not drink alcohol. If symptoms are significant or severe please visit the local urgent care in Crested Butte or hospital in Gunnison. We are so grateful to everyone traveling to celebrate with us and truly appreciate the effort it takes to be there. We kindly encourage guests to book accommodations early, as availability in Crested Butte can be limited. Airbnb and VRBO are also great options, along with other hotels located throughout town. If you choose to stay in the Town of Crested Butte, it offers superb walkability to restaurants and shops.

Elevation Hotel and Spa

The Grand Lodge

This full-service hotel 1 to 3 bedroom suites, most with resort kitchenettes.

Nordic Inn

Take a stroll down Elk Avenue to experience the wonderful shopping, restaurants, and art scene Crested Butte has to offer.

If you have a rental car you cannot miss a drive on <a href="https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g33377-d102559-Reviews-Kebler_Pass-Crested_Butte_Colorado.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kebler Pass</a> to see one of the largest Aspen groves in the US.

Easy Hikes 

Brush Creek 

<a href="https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-hikes-brush-creek/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Brush Creek</a> is a 4.3 mile hike that covers 315 feet of elevation and a great spot to see Aspen trees.

Judd Falls 

<a href="https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-hikes-judd-falls/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Judd Falls</a> is a mellow trail a few miles up towards Gothic, it is a pleasant 1 mike hike each way.

Long Lake 

Two routes lead to <a href="https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-hikes-meridian-lake/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Long Lake</a>, one mellow and one more strenuous. Either way, it’s worth the trip to this beautiful high alpine lake.

Moderate Hike

Oh Be Joyful 

<a href="https://www.gjhikes.com/2018/07/oh-be-joyful.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Oh Be Joyful</a> is an out-and-back hike ranging from a few miles up to 11 miles, beginning along the Slate River.

Green Lake 

<a href="https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-trails-green-lake-mt-axtell/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Green Lake</a> (Mt. Axtell) is a 9 mile hike that covers almost 2,000 feet of elevation gain but the views are worth it.

Scarp Ridge 

<a href="https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-hikes-scarp-ridge-middle-loop/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Scarp Ridge</a> is a 4.3 mile hike that covers 1,500 feet of elevation gain. It has sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. A 4WD vehicle is recommended to access the trailhead.
